San Fereolo Dogliani, Piedmont, Italy 2016
San Fereolo Dogliani, Piedmont, Italy 2016
Nicoletta Bocca purchased her property in Dogliani in 1992, and has run it using biodynamic methods ever since. Dogliani is a DOCG in Piedmont, just south of Barolo. Instead of focusing on Nebbiolo, the vineyards and cellars in Dogliani are dedicated to producing the highest quality Dolcetto, in a much more serious and full-bodied style than those of Asti or Alba.
This is Nicoletta's flagship wine, and when it comes to her Dolcetto, forget what you think you know about Dolcetto because this is very different. The 7-year wait from harvest to release reflects the importance of the “San Fereolo” to Nicoletta, who carefully tends the wine through its 3 years in large barrel before a 3-4 year hibernation in the bottle cellar.
The long wait before release empowers & integrates the savory and earthy elements of Dolcetto. San Fereolo Dolcetto is a densely structured & complex wine showing notes of bramble, cacao & herbs accompanied by brooding, dark tannins.
