Domaine Bart Marsannay Rouge, Burgundy, France 2022

Domaine Bart Marsannay Rouge, Burgundy, France 2022
Domaine Bart's roots in Marsannay run quite deep, as it is based on the vineyards of Clair-Dau, although the domaine in it's current form was started in the 1980's. Pierre Bart runs the estate now with his mother and his uncle, Martin, who's grandfather ran the famed Domaine Clair-Dau. Marsannay has a long history of amazing Burgundy wines, and is famous as the only appellation to produce village level wines in red, white and rosé. It was Clair-Dau that produced the original and highly coveted Marsannay rosé in 1919.
Today, Domaine Bart produces 90% red wine, but still makes a small amount of rosé and white. Their vines have been gradually replanted since 1922, and average over 40 years in age. The vineyards have always been tended with organic practices. Fruit is de-stemmed fully, and a small amount of the best stems are returned to provide balance. After natural fermentation with a mix of punch downs and pump overs, the wine is aged in large oak casks, with only a small 5% or so being new barrels. The only sulfur used is a minimal amount when the wines are bottled, which is done without fining or filtration.
This is always a bright and fresh expression, showing off juicy fruit without being earthy, and it is very accessible at a young age and excellent price. A perfect red Burgundy to convert new world Pinot Noir drinkers!
