Bitouzet-Prieur Aligoté 'Les Grandes Terres', Burgundy, France 2022
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur is a Domaine run by Vincent Bitouzeau and Annie Prieu, a family with a deep Burgundian roots. The Bitouzet family have been making wine in Volnay ever since M. Guillote, Vincent’s great-great grandfather, stablished in Burgundy back in the 1800s. Annie Prieu’s wine pedigree is just as impressive with her family making wine for centuries in Meursault and Ladoix. Nowadays Vincent and Annie are perpetuating the tradition by passing the family wine heritage onto their son, Francois Bitouzet.
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur’s style is classic, producing wines with impeccable structure and delicate finesse, with a remarkable capability of aging for decades with elegance and grace. Their wines are crafted with great respect for the land, embracing the unique characteristics of each Lieu-Dit, with a very rigorous approach to organic viticulture, and a low-intervention philosophy in the cellar.
Produced with grapes from their 40 years old vineyard in Mersault, this Aligote is fresh and alive. Fermented on stainless steel, and matured in neutral oak, this wine offers soft textures as a result of being in contact with the lees during aging prosess. It lends a bright citrus acidity, with hints of green apple. There’s a pleasant acidity that brings energy, complemented by a subtle nuttiness and minerality that make it ideal for pairing with light seafood or as an aperitif.
