La Miraja is a small winery converted from an 11th century castle armory in Castagnole Monferrato. Today they produce wines from Grignolino, Barbera, Freisa, and have access to the oldest Ruché vines in the region in the famed Majole vineyard. The operation is run by seventh-generation viticulturist, Eugenio Gatti, whose experience and use of traditional winemaking methods is what makes the La Miraja wines so pure and energetic. Ruché is a classic grape of the Alba area, which produces a wine with savory depth and complex aromatics. The nose has notes of roses and pepper, while the palate serves up smooth tannins and flavors of iron and wild blackberry.
