Rennersistas 'Waiting for Tom' Red Blend, Burgenland, Austria 2018 - 1.5L

Rennersistas is a third-generation family winery in the Burgenland village of Gols, run by sister and brother, Stefanie and Georg Renner. Their parents, Birgit and Helmuth, started the winery in 1988 using the 12-hectare family vineyard land which previously just grew grapes. In 2014, Stefanie and her sister Susanne took over and named it Rennersistas (get it?). Susanne stepped back in 2020 and younger brother Georg took her place, learning from Stefanie who energetically spearheads the winemaking with her endless, infectious energy and keen mind. Georg helps keep everyone calm, sane, and organized, and now in his 5th year, the two tackle both field work and cellar work together. 

Rennersistas' wines are gently made and gently aged, employing only neutral vessels in the cellar, mainly large-format Austrian oak barriques and demi-muids, and some clay amphorae. They always bottle unfiltered, unfined, with no additions except small amounts of sulfur only when necessary (between 5-25 mg/l added during vinification, preferably around racking or blending, to vessels that may need it). 

'Waiting for Tom' is the Rennersistas' flagship red blend, made from Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, and Zweigelt, hand-harvested from three separate vineyard parcels planted in 1999 and 2009. Roughly 2/3 of the grapes were destemmed, 1/3 whole-cluster, with a mix of direct press lots and macerations of up three-nine days, all fermented and aged in a mix of 225 to 500L used oak barrels. Waiting for Tom is always the cuvée that shows best with time—it's in an expressive and elegant spot right now and we’re tickled to have some back-vintage magnums of this flagship red.
