Domaine Tempier Bandol Blanc, France 2024
Domaine Tempier Bandol Blanc, France 2024
In 1936, Lucie "Lulu" Tempier married Lucien Peyraud and was gifted Domaine Tempier by her father - a thriving farm that had been in the family for over a century. Together, they not only developed the estate's vineyards but also helped establish the region as its own A.O.C. in 1941. Lulu passed away in 2020 after a long and joyous life of nearly 103 years, to join her husband in 'Winemaker's Paradise', leaving the domaine in the capable hands of a large team of family and industry veterans who continue the biodynamic practices and world-class winemaking for which Tempier has always been famous.
Tempier Blanc is produced in far smaller quantities than their flagship red and rosé, from a single 18-hectare parcel added to the Tempier estate in 2016. This is a cooler site which faces East/Southeast at about 300 meters elevation, planted to a mix of traditional southern French white grapes with an average vine age of 25-30 years. Exceptional focus and length for a Bandol Blanc, with a full mid-palate and a fan of white fruit flavors anchored by a touch of salinity - this wine can age with many of the best, or be enjoyed in its youth for a wonderful bottle of white any time of year.
Grapes: 60% Clairette, 30% Ugni Blanc, with Rolle, Bourboulenc, and Marsanne comprising the last 10%
Soil: Sandy Marine Marl
Farming: Practicing Organic and Biodynamic
Pairing: Whole roasted fish with Mediterranean herbs
