Altos Las Hormigas 'Reserve' Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina 2022

Founded in 1995 by a group of friends including renowned Tuscan winemaker Alberto Antonini and agronomist Antonio Morescalchi, Altos Las Hormigas helped redefine Argentine Malbec through a focus on terroir, balance and finesse based in an more old-world sensibility. The team works with old-vine Malbec from high-altitude vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley regions which are known for their stony, calcareous soils and cool Andean breezes.

The ‘Reserve’ Malbec is crafted from select parcels that express Mendoza’s limestone-rich terroirs at their finest. Fermented with native yeasts and aged mostly in large neutral oak for eighteen months, it offers vibrant aromas of black cherry, plum, violet, and fresh herbaceous taste. The soils are composed of medium and large gravels and limestone which are coated in calcium carbonate. The cool-climate, limestone terroir gives the wine a distinctive minerality and supple tannins. The result is a refined, elegant Malbec that bridges the richness of Argentina with the restraint and texture of great Old World reds. Ready to enjoy now or refine with age for up to twenty years.
