Madeira has grown sugar cane for well over a century as a source of dry sugar.  In the 1920's they began growing sugar beets as a more economical source, and the question of what to do with their cane fields was evident: RUM! As their rum was all single estate from whole cane pressings, this actually made Madeira the first producer of agricole rum. William Hinton produces a range of styles and ages, and is one of the oldest rum producers on Madeira. The company was purchased by a Portugeuse import company, but luckily for rum lovers they kept the company the same and continued producing quality local rum from the same fields of the beautiful Madeiran purple cane variety.
