The west coast of South Africa is a rugged and arid place, fairly inhospitable to non-locals, but absolutely epic for producing intensely flavorful wines. South Africa has an extremely long history of wine-making, and while Chenin Blanc is typically the star white, Sauvignon Blanc from Swartland is just as worthy of international praise.
