Lavantureux 'Les Fauconniers,' Bourgogne Epineuil, France 2022

Lavantureux, known for Chablis production, produces a lovely aromatic red in the Bourgogne Epineuil AOC. Crafted from vines planted by the pair’s grandfather, this earthly aromatic wine is made with destemmed fruit and vinified in steel prior to aging for one year in a combination of barrel (75%) and tank (25%). Crunchy, red-fruited, and laden with earthy goodness, this wine has quickly made itself a staple.

At the moment reductive. Excellent bright purple colour and though the reduction is strong, the wealth of fruit comes up behind brilliantly. This is going to be spectacular! And better balanced than the 2019 which I loved from the start. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: July 2023.

Pairing: Camembert, Mushroom bisque

Grape: Pinot Noir

Soil: Kimmeridgian marl

Viticulture: Lutte Raisonnée
