Domaine Gallety 'Cuvee Emma' Rouge, Cotês du Vivarais, France 2020
The western side of the Rhône River is also home to Côtes that are similar to the Côtes-du-Rhône on the other side. Domaine Gallety put the Cotês du Vivarais on the map, and Alain Gallety now oversees every step of the winemaking process with dedication. Since the early 80s, the Domaine has cultivated fifteen hectares of vineyards with organic farming methods to ensure the quality of the grapes. Their devotion to the land, and their impressive wines, keeps this family domaine enshrined as the top producer in the hidden gem that is the Cotês du Vivarais.
This cuvee is a blend of Syrah and Grenache aged in neutral oak barrels with a traditional approach in the cellar that gently guides the excellent fruit to it's full expression. Polished and powerful, favoring length over depth, and not weighed down by oak influence or overextraction. Springy tannins add the ideal amount of structure to anchor the spicy Grenache notes, supple red currant and plum flavors, and savory depth from the Syrah. This concisely knitted blend exemplifies why Grenache and Syrah are time-honored partners in some of the world's best wines.
