Bitouzet-Prieur, Bourgogne Passetoutgrains 'Grange le Duc', Burgundy, France 2022
Vincent Bitouzeau and his wife, Annie Prieu, are both from families with deep roots in Burgundy. They carry on the legacy by producing classic wines out of their estate in Volnay. Vincent’s great-great grandfather, M. Gillotte, was once the mayor of Auxey-Duresses before the family settled in Volany in 1802. Annie Prieu’s wine pedigree is just as impressive with her family making wine for centuries in Meursault and Ladoix. Their son, Francois, is now an integral part of the production, and has recently taken the helm in the cellar.
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur’s style is classic, producing wines with impeccable structure and delicate finesse, with a remarkable capability of aging for decades with elegance and grace. Their wines are crafted with great respect for the land, embracing the unique characteristics of each Lieu-Dit, with a very rigorous approach to organic viticulture, and a low-intervention philosophy in the cellar.
Francois’s Bourgogne Passetoutgrains, is from fruit grown in the Grange le Duc vineyard, which is immediately adjacent to AOC Volnay. It is 70% Pinot Noir planted in 1974, and 30% Gamay planted in 1953. The wine sees no new oak, but only one year in used 228-liter barrels, resulting in a juicy but classic red with finesse and that Volnay-like sense of savory earth.
Grape: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Gamay
Viticulture: Organic
