Gil Berzal is making some of the most exciting new wines in Rioja Alavesa through meticulous hand-management and regenerative farming of old vineyards in this previously under-appreciated part of Rioja.

His entry level white is everything you want from white Rioja, lively and intense with just enough weight to hold up to richer foods. The old-vine Viura and Malvasia come from a handful of small parcels at some 600 meters elevation, and are hand-harvested and co-fermented in concrete with no treatments or additions. This classic hands-off winemaking lets the fruit shine, delivering a fresh and unadulterated Rioja blanco at a very good price.
