Henry Marionnet Touraine Blanc, France 2022

Henry Marionnet Touraine Blanc, France 2022
Henry Marionnet is the keeper of one of the most famous estates in the Touraine region. Though Henry is mainly retired today, the vineyards and winery are in the capable hands of his son, Jean-Sébastien Marionnet. The heart of the estate dates back to 1850, but in the 60's and 70's Henry replanted and expanded the vineyards to nearly 60 hectares, while preserving the original six hectares of ungrafted vines. He never used chemicals in the vineyard, and never used oak in the cellar, and his son continues to stick to these principles.
Marionnet's Touraine Blanc is a classic Loire Sauvignon Blanc that will appeal to any Sancerre lover, but at a better price. Touraine's soils are more flinty clay and sand instead of limestone like Sancerre, leading to a wine that is still crisp and dry but a bit more round than Sancerre. Juicy acidity with some fruit on the nose to balance the mineral notes, this wine is wonderful for salads, shellfish, chicken, or just your regular Sauvignon Blanc craving.
