Shelter Winery 'Lovely Lilly' Pinot Noir, Baden, Germany 2021
Shelter Winery 'Lovely Lilly' Pinot Noir, Baden, Germany 2021
Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf create this nimble expression of Pinot Noir, named after their beloved dog, Lilly, from the small five-hectares they farm in Baden. If you haven't heard of Baden, we totally understand, but this region in the southwest of Germany (just east of Alsace) has recently developed a reputation for delicate and lively wines that are a must-try for any Pinot lover.
Those familiar with German P. Noir may know it can lean toward the earthy and reductive side of this grape's wide spectrum. While this bottle can lead with a touch of reduction, it opens up gracefully to reveal aromatic red fruits, a clean mineral mid-palate, and superb drinkability.
Aged in large, neutral oak barrels to retain the pure fruit character and soft tannins,
'Lovely Lilly' embodies Shelter Winery's dedication to expressive and clean Pinot Noir.
It features bright notes of cherry, red berries, and subtle earthy tones with a fresh acidity and a smooth finish, making it easy to pair with a wide range of foods. Hans and Silke clearly believe in producing wines that are drinkable and genuine, representing the unique terroir of Baden through their gentle winemaking style.
