Amandum Friulano, Friuli Isonzo, Italy 2019

Amandum Friulano, Friuli Isonzo, Italy 2019

Amandum is nestled in the Gorizia area of Friuli, between the ancient valleys of the Isonzo and Vipacco rivers. The vineyards are protected by the Julian Alps to the north and influenced by breezes from the nearby Adriatic Sea. Overlooking the gentle plains of the Isonzo River, this land has been shaped over centuries into a uniquely favorable environment for vine growing.

The vineyards grow in clay and iron-rich red soils that give structure and character to the wines. The land is mostly flat and lies near the Versa River, with the Isonzo flowing just below. The rivers not only supply irrigation water but also help regulate the microclimate. Farming at Amandum is intentionally low-intervention. Though not certified organic, they practice sustainability with great care and attention to the land. Their Friulano vineyards, planted by Bianca in the 1950s, are the oldest, while the Pinot Grigio vines date back to the late 1970s.
