Weingut Knoll Loibner Chardonnay Smaragd, Wachau, Austria 2020
Probably one of the most iconic wine labels in the world, the baroque motif of the St. Urban of the winemakers, and one of most respected winemaking families not only in Austria but in the world. The Knolls have practiced viticulture in the Wachau for generations, since their first estate bottlings in the 1950s.
While Knoll is best known for its Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, the Chardonnay also stands out due to its balance of finesse and richness, shaped by the unique terroir of the region. This wine is elegant, typically characterized by its fresh acidity and complex flavor profile, including notes of stone fruit, citrus, and a delicate minerality. The region’s cool climate and soil composition contribute to the wine’s precision and structure. The approach to this Chardonnay mirrors the Knoll family’s philosophy for their other varietals- low yields, careful vineyard management, and minimal intervention in the cellar. This Chardonnay has a strong potential for aging, allowing it to develop further depth and complexity over time.
