Castello di Ama 'San Lorenzo' Chianti Classico, Italy 2021
Castello di Ama 'San Lorenzo' Chianti Classico, Italy 2021
Castello di Ama was founded in 1976, in the hills of Gaiole, nestled between woods, vineyards and olive groves. The castle and vineyards cover a rounded hilltop between 1400 to 1750 feet in elevation, with perfect southern exposure and clay-limestone soils.
The estate is led by Lorenza Sebasti, a member of the second generation of one of the four founding families, with Marco Pallanti as winemaker and technical director since 1982. The vineyards are managed by hand, with exceptional respect for the land and very low yields. Castello di Ama is truly one of the most authentic producers not only in Chianti, but in all of Tuscany.
This is one of their top bottlings, sourced entirely from San Lorenzo valley, in the historic vineyards Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni at 460-525 meters. The blend of 80% Sangiovese, 13% Merlot and 7% Malvasia Nera is aged in 22% new oak barriques for 12 months before bottling.
“…perfumed and gorgeous, with black cherries, blackcurrants and violets. Full-bodied with totally integrated tannins and a palate presence that is pretty spectacular. Wonderful finish.” 99 Points. #6 top 100 wines of Italy 2024. - James Suckling
