Charles Audoin Bourgogne Rouge, Marsannay, France 2022

Charles Audoin Bourgogne Rouge, Marsannay, France 2022
Cyril Audoin is the fifth generation to join the family winery. His father, Charles, was a visionary, selecting and visiting the best parcels in Marsannay (at the northern tip of Côte de Nuits) before the region even gained the appellation status in the 1970's. Favieres is a one-hectare vineyard that sits above the Château de Marsannay and derives its name from the proximity of bedrock to its surface. 50% of the vines were replanted in 2009. This domaine always offers up incredible value in regard to Burgundy, given the seemingly never ending price increase throughout the appelation.
Grape: Pinot Noir
Viticulture: Sustainable
Pairing: Poultry, Duck, soy marinates
From William Kelley of Wine Advocate: 94 points
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries, raspberries, sweet spices and peonies, Audoin's 2020 Marsannay Les Favières is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, its powdery tannins largely concealed in a layered core of vibrant, fragrant fruit. While it's especially suave out of the gates, this is always the domaine's long-distance runner, so patience will be rewarded.
