Laurent Charvin represents the sixth generation to run his family Chateauneuf-du-Pape estate since it was founded in 1851. He quickly became a leader in the region's now popular movement to reintroduce traditional methods such as organic viticulture and whole-cluster fermentation in concrete tanks. As others followed his lead, he gained a devout following and was elevated to the top rank as one of only five 3-star-rated producers in the region. Charvin's 'Le Poutet' is a lovely red blend produced mainly from younger vines and fruit that would otherwise qualify for use in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine, so it offers excellent value for those who want to taste the wines of this excellent producer at a fair price point.
