Comando G 'Rozas', Sierra de Gredos, Spain 2023
Tucked away amongst rugged peaks of the Sierra de Gredos, just a short trip from Madrid, Daniel Landi & Fernando Garcia have been quietly crafting some of Spain's best wines since 2008 under the name Comando G. At this point, the secret is out, but production remains minuscule.
From the beginning, the duo has adopted a Burgundian philosophy regarding their wine production style, and Rozas is a village-level wine. The Garnacha grapes are from three small vineyards near Las Rozas de Puerto Real, where many plantings are 90 years old and sit at an altitude of 800-900 meters on granite soil. This altitude enables a balanced ripening and very fresh wines.
La Bruja is perfumed and lively with plenty of fruit with a backbone of acidity and fine tannin. Consistently an outstanding example of this up-and-coming style of Sierra de Gredos mountain Garnacha.
Pairing: Spiced Fish Stew, beef
