Lucien Muzard Maranges Rouge, Burgundy 2022
Brothers Claude and Hervé Muzard are the ninth generation to manage this family domaine that dates to 1645! This is an unlikely Santenay, as the region has a reputation for delivering a "rustic" style of wine. Muzard's wines portray an elegant style of Pinot Noir, highlighting aromas of a perfectly ripe cherry, red currant, button mushroom, & a pleasant earthy quality bolstered by refreshing acidity & well integrated soft tannin.
Grape: Pinot Noir (Sourced from two vineyards near Cheilly-les-Maranges, planted in the 1960s.)
Soil: Heavy clay soils. The Muzard brothers refer to this soil as "sol amoureux" or loving soil as the clay sticks to your boots.
Elevage: Aged 10 months, 30% in tank and 70% in 228-liter and 350-liter barrels, about 15% of which are new
Viticulture: Organic practicing
