Criante 'C20M, Macerato Contrada Valle', Catarratto, Terre Siciliane, Italy 2020
Criante is a certified organic polyculture farm in Alcamo, Sicily. This is the western part of the island, in the province of Trapani, the dead center of the Mediterranean Sea, a bit closer to Tunisia than to mainland Italia. This warm, and semi-arid zone has been home to the native Catarratto grape for over a millennium. The couple behind this lovely orange wine, Davide and Irene, are the real deal, two people invested in the traditions and future of their homeland, who happen to make wine. The grapes are destemmed and then left to macerate on the skins for 8 days, with fermentation and aging in stainless steel.
Pairing: Hearty faro salad, root vegetable with hummus
Grape: Catarratto (bush vines)
