Domaine Pêcheur Vin Jaune, Jura, France 2017
According to Jura expert, Winch Lorch: 'Christian Pêcheur is one of the salt-of-the-earth, traditional, hardworking vignerons who deserves great respect for his work.'
The family has been farming here in the down of Darbonnay since the 70s. Now their vines are ranging from 35-50 years of age.
Vin Jaune, often referred to as the "yellow wine," is made from 100% Savagnin grapes, a native variety of the Jura. It is aged for a minimum of six years and three months under a natural layer of yeast (known as voile), in barrels that are not topped up, which allows the wine to develop its characteristic oxidative flavors.
This wine showcases the classic attributes of the Vin Jaune’s style: deep golden color, intense aromas of walnuts, almonds, and spices, with a rich, nutty flavor profile, complemented by vibrant acidity and a long finish. This wine is renowned for its exceptional ability to age, sometimes for decades, gaining complexity over time. Domaine Pecheur's dedication to crafting wines in the traditional Jura style, with a focus on authenticity and the unique terroir of the region, is evident in their Vin Jaune, which reflects the distinctive oxidative qualities that make Jura wines so renowned.
