Macari Vineyards 'Lifeforce' Sauvignon Blanc, North Fork of Long Island 2023

Macari Vineyards 'Lifeforce' Sauvignon Blanc, North Fork of Long Island 2023
Macari produces some of the finest grapes grown on Long Island, thanks to the family's devotion to truly sustainable viticulture. The history of Macari Wines reaches back to the 30’s and 40’s when Joseph’s father, Joseph T. Macari Sr., made wine with his father and grandfather in their basement in Corona, Queens, New York. In the mid 60’s, he purchased a 500-acre former potato farm on Long Island Sound. It would be another 30 years before he began to realize his dream of growing grapes and making wine.
The farm was fallow until 1995 when Joseph Jr. and Alexandra Macari moved to the North Fork with their four children to begin planting vines. Joseph Jr. studied with some of the great names in biodynamic viticulture and began holistic management of the property, complete with cattle and a whole field devoted to compost. Now in the third generation, the next Joseph Jr. has succeeded as Vineyard Manager, his sister Gabriella is Director of Operations, and worldwide vine veteran Byron Elmendorf has taken charge of the cellar.
Macari's concrete Sauvignon Blanc is one of their most popular wines. Aromas of stone fruits, lemon, and fresh herbs. This wine is both complex and energetic, with flavors of lemon-lime, peaches, and pears, imbued with coastal salinity, and a citrusy acidity that carries into the refreshing finish. Perfect for local Long Island fare like fresh cheeses and seafood.
