Patrick Baudouin 'Effusion' Anjou Blanc, Loire Valley, France 2022
Patrick Baudoiun's vineyards are certified organic, but go well beyond typical organic practice. His meticulousness and passion border on wizardry. He creates highly expressive wines that show exactly where they’re from. ‘Effusion' displays the rich honey of ripe Chenin, along with as the minerality of Anjou’s volcanic soils.
The Anjou Noir is named after the dark-colored ancient rocks of the Massif Armoricain, formerly a range of mountains that were once as high as the Alps. Over the last 400 million years, they've eroded down to rolling hills of ancient metamorphic and volcanic rock that rise just over 400 meters above the sea. This great terroir is protected by a ridge to the southwest which rises to 200 meters and keeps the rainfall here in the lowest of all of the Loire Valley.
Sourced from different vineyards, this blend weaves together layers of savory notes of dried herbs and grasses, spices, acacia honey, and fruits. The result is mineral and dry, with good acidity.
Pairing: Roast chicken, Broiled fluke with lemon, Goat cheese and mushroom tart
