Pépière 'Briords' Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, France 2023 MAGNUM
One of the undisputed great domaines within Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, is Domaine de la Pépiere. The name is synonymous with quality & terroir. With that being said, Clos des Briords is located on the hillsides of the river Maine, a tributary of the Loire. The site totals 4.40 hectares and the vines were planted between 1950 and 1989, with the vast majority of the vines between 50 and 70 years old. Only a small part of the oldest vines produce the Clos des Briords bottling. Briords is generally the most structured and powerful of Pepière's wines.
Pairing: Oysters, crudo, shellfish
Grape: Melon de Bourgogne
Soil: The soils are "granite de Thebaud" but do not fall within the Château-Thebaud cru designation. Feldspar and clay--it is cooler, slower ripening, holds and drains water well, supplies more nutrients and is looser (so roots can go deep to the hard granite mother rock)
Viticulture: Organic
