Stein 'Weihwasser' Riesling Feinherb, Mosel, Germany 2025
Stein 'Weihwasser' Riesling Feinherb, Mosel, Germany 2025
Weihwasser means holy water in German, since the vineyards are near a church, and this crisp and pleasantly off-dry Riesling is certainly divine. The Stein family has been farming and preserving old vines in the Mosel Valley for many generations. They maintained their original ungrafted vines while many other estates ripped theirs out to replace them with American rootstocks. The steep slopes of slate bedrock here provide ideal sites for highly expressive fruit, fermented in 1,000-liter foudres which are some 50-100 years old. This is a very traditional Feinherb, which is a style that is not as dry as Trocken but less sweet than Halbtrocken. German is fun.
