Vinarija Križ 'Plavac Mali White Label', Croatia 2020
Vinarija Križ has just under 2 hectares on their family estate planted to the important indigenous Croatian red grape, Plavac Mali. They manage these ~60 year old vines by hand, free of any chemicals, and follow many biodynamic principles. The wine is fermented with its native yeasts and aged in Slovenian oak barrels for at least 1 year before bottling.
This is an excellent example of the rich and deeply structured Croatian reds that deserve a lot more attention in the US. Any lover of Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux, or other full-bodied reds will appreciate this wine. These bottles have the big tannins to perfectly match a big steak off the grill, and will continue to age and soften up if cellared.
