Vino di Anna 'Jeudi 15' Vino Rosato, Sicily, Italy 2024
Anna Martens, a Southern Australia native, travelled the globe working for wineries in some of the most beautiful regions that grapes are grown. She finally arrived in Italy, where she met her husband, Eric Narico, owner of an importing company in the UK. They were both in love with the terroir of Sicily and found a perfect place to start their winery. They now own 2 hectares of old alberello (bush) vines, most of which are Nerello Mascalese, but also including other varieties such as Nerello Cappuccio, Grecanico and Carricante. The vineyards sit at 760-900m altitude and are farmed organically.
Jeudi 15 is an annual favorite, a deeply textured rose made from 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Grecanico. The Nerello Mascalese is half whole cluster and half destemmed, and ferments open-top for 36 hours. Then the juice is pressed into a used 20hl oak cask to complete fermentation. The white Grecanico portion sees 5 days of skin contact in steel before being added to the fermenting rose. The entire wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, and is then racked clean to stainless steel to rest, before bottling unfiltered and unfined without any added SO2.
Grape: Nerello Mascalese 90%, Grecanico 10%
Soil: Pomace & volcanic (basalt)
