Marcel Lapierre Morgon, Beaujolais, France 2023

After Marcel's passing in 2010 his son and daughter, Matthieu and Camille, took over not only the vineyards but also Marcel's winemaking vision. Marcel believed in wines that are true to place, farmed organically with minimal intervention during vinification and the aging process. The domaine's plot of land within the Morgon Cru is composed of decomposing granite and gravel soils with vines averaging 60 years of age. Vines are harvested as late as possible to achieve maximum ripeness while maintaining freshness. In the winery the wine is macerated with whole clusters, fermented in old Burgundy barrels from  Domaine Prieure-Roch in Vosne Romanee and bottled without filtration.
This is a pure expression of Gamay: medium bodied, ripe juicy tannin & focused acidity, cranberry, clove and blood orange peel with an undertone of crunchy stones and ripe plums.
