Leydet Château Valois Pomerol, France 2019
Leydet Château Valois Pomerol, France 2019
Frederic Leydet operates this eight hectare family estate located in one of the top growing areas of Pomerol. The soil here is composed of sand, fine gravel and iron. Frederic was born and raised at the estate and started working with his father formally in the vineyards in 1996. He has since inherited the proprietorship and developed the farming methods to acquire organic certification, producing his own elegant and distinctive expression of Pomerol.
Fermentation for their Chateau Valois Pomerol begins naturally in stainless steel tanks, and then the wine is aged in oak barrels. Minimal sulfur use and no fining or filtration give this wine a traditional old-word character. Full on the palate and well-balanced between fruit and earthy spice, with structured and smooth tannins that give the wine power and longevity. A very distinctive Pomerol from a small and undersung hero of this popular appellation.
