Pollard Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima Valley, Washington 2021

Robin Pollard is the former executive director of the Washington State Wine Commission, and life partner of Chris Camarda, winemaker at Andrew Will Cellars. Her 10-acre vineyard high up in the hills of Yakima Valley faces south-west and has soils of sandy-loam over limestone bedrock. It is densely planted, and tended with organic practices. Robin's Cabernet Sauvignon is taken to Andrew Will Cellars and given the royal treatment by Chris including aging in 20% new oak barrels. The oak influence is very subtle and merely knits together the complex flavors of fig, tobacco, cinnamon, plum, and classic west coast Cab bay leaf. This is a wine with a serious sense of place... and although that place is Washington, you would be hard-pressed to find a better Cab Sauv in California for the price.
