Chateau Haut-Segottes is run by one of the most meticulous and experienced vignerons in Bordeaux, Madame Meunier. Her cellar is impeccably organized and her vineyards are hand-managed by her trio of master gardeners. The organic vineyards are planted to 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and just 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Their Grand Cru red is predominantly Cabernet Franc and exemplifies the level of depth this varietal can achieve, with the help of some Merlot backbone and perhaps a touch of the tiny annual yield of Cab Sauv. The fruit is all hand-harvested and native-yeast fermented, of course. Unlike their 'Petit Corbin' this wine does see some new oak during elevage, about 20% during its 18 months in barrel.

All of this adds up to an exceptionally well integrated Bordeaux that is full, despite being predominantly Cabernet Franc, but with soft tannins and enchanting spice aromas. On the palate, red currant and plum notes intertwine elegantly with tobacco and black pepper, offering everything you want from a St-Emilion that can be enjoyed without cellaring and at a great price.
