Lucien Boillot 'Les Grands Poisots' Pinot Beurot, Bourgogne, France 2010

Pierre Boillot and his brother inherited Domaine Lucien Boillot from their father, and though they later split the holdings, Pierre retained control of the original cellars in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as many world-class vineyards in both the Côtes de Nuits and Côtes de Beaune.

The 'Les Grand Poisots' vineyard from which this wine is sourced was planted in 1958 in Volnay, though it cannot be labeled as Volnay since it is made from Pinot Gris (locally called Pinot Beurot).  In spite of the labeling regulations, the quality and longevity of the wine clearly proves its terroir.  This bottling from the stellar 2010 vintage has aged gracefully, developing subtle notes of golden raisin, gala apple, and hazelnut wrapped around a tenacious acid core.  The palate is softened by age, but the lively acidity still maintains balance, making this a treat for those who enjoy vintage white wines.
