Macari Vineyards 'Horses' Cabernet Franc Rosé Sparkling, North Fork of Long Island 2023
Macari Vineyards 'Horses' Cabernet Franc Rosé Sparkling, North Fork of Long Island 2023
Macari produces some of the finest grapes grown on Long Island, thanks to the family's devotion to truly sustainable viticulture. Joseph Jr. and Alexandra Macari planted the family vineyard in 1995, and after Joseph Jr. studied with some of the great names in biodynamic viticulture he began holistic management of the property, complete with cattle and a whole field devoted to compost. Now in the third generation, the next Joseph Jr. has succeeded as Vineyard Manager, his sister Gabriella is Director of Operations, and worldwide vine veteran Byron Elmendorf has taken charge of the cellar.
Their 'Horses' pet-nat has developed something of a cult following in the region. This release is made with 100% Cabernet Franc destemmed and left on the skins for 24 hours, then gently pressed and fermented cold and slowly throughout harvest. The wine is racked and bottled in early November to finish fermentation in the bottle, then disgorged after 5 months.
Since this is a disgorged pet-nat it has great clarity and little to no sediment, resulting in a bright, refreshing, and dry sparkling wine. With subtle notes of cranberry, raspberry, and warm spices, this is an excellent choice for afternoon picnics or as an aperitif when entertaining.
Pairing: Duck confit crostini, Sunny picnics or just on its own!
Grapes: Cabernet Franc
