Magoutes Vineyard 'Siatista' Xinomavro, Macedonia, Greece 2019
Magoutes Vineyard 'Siatista' Xinomavro, Macedonia, Greece 2019
The tiny town of Siatista sits in the mountainous northwest of Macedonian Greece. An almost forgotten region for grape-growing, the Magoutes vineyards were replanted with local varietals by the Diamantis family. Xinomavro is one of the most important native Greek wine grapes, and it shows its power and complexity in this polished example. Light in appearance, it boasts gripping tannins and deep and juicy blackberry on the palate, with some light floral and herbal notes on the nose. If there is a Greek wine to compare to Nebbiolo, this is it.
Grape: Xinomavro
Terroir: Limestone soils and rocky rugged terrain, with a cooler climate than most of Greece as the Magoutes vineyards are in the foothills of inland mountains
Viticulture: Organic
Pairing: Dolmas, Lamb or Beef Gyro
